Paid Parental Leave & FMLA

Greetings everyone, I am inquiring how your agency handles Paid Parental Leave (PPL) and FMLA leave. Does your agency require PPL to be used as part of FMLA, or are they separate leaves? The State Personnel Board Rule for Absences from Work indicates that an agency may require PPL run concurrently with FMLA.

DPH currently has PPL and FMLA as separate leave types. An employee could be eligible for 12 weeks of FMLA and 3 weeks (soon to be 6 weeks) of PPL in the first year after the child is born/placed in the home. We are considering updating our policy to require PPL be used concurrently with FMLA.  We are curious how other agencies are handling this topic.

    Thanks!
